According to Kukuh, the Indonesian automotive industry is one of the strategic industries in Indonesia. Its contribution to Indonesia's 2018 gross domestic product (GDP) reached 1.76 percent or equivalent to Rp260.9 trillion. "The automotive industry was also included in the top 10 foreign direct investment in Indonesia in 2018 worth US$ 1 billion," he explained.
In terms of sales, from 2012 to 2018, car sales in Indonesia were at the level of one million units. This year, Gaikindo estimates its sales to reach 1.1 million units.
Meanwhile, Sakari Kuikka, General Manager of Universal Robots, added that Indonesia's market potential is promising. This is because the ratio of the use of robots in Indonesia's manufacturing industry as a whole is still low
